LIMA TRAVEL INFORMATION

Lima Travel

Lima Travel: Lima is the capital and largest city in Peru, as well as the capital of Lima Province. It is the cultural, industrial, financial, and transport hub of the country. The city is located in an area encompassing the valleys of the Chillón, Rímac and Lurín rivers. It lies on a desertic coast adjacent to the bay in the Pacific Ocean where its port was built and named Callao.

Lima is also the best place to try the wonderful Peruvian cuisine, which has a huge variety of ingredients from coast, mountain and Amazon regions. The cold sea current in front of Peru's large coast makes the sea very rich in fish and seafood, which have a great taste due to the special plankton they eat. Fish and seafood restaurants are therefore the best, and not expensive.

Lima has also a great subtropical climate, it is never too warm or too cold. People in Lima do not know what a raincoat or umbrella is, since rains are rare. In fact, Lima is built upon a valley surrounded by an extremely arid desert.

HISTORY OF LIMA
In 1532 the Spanish Francisco Pizarro landed in Peru with a force of around 180 men. Conditions were favorable to conquest, for the empire was debilitated by a just-concluded civil war between the heirs to the Inca throne, Atahualpa and Huascar, each of whom was seeking to control the empire.

When Atahualpa arrived, the Spaniards ambushed and seized him, and killed thousands of his followers. Although Atahualpa paid the most fabulous ransom known to history—a room full of gold and another full of silver—for his freedom, the Spaniards murdered him in 1533.

The city of Lima was founded by Spanish Francisco Pizarro on January 18, 1535, as the City of Kings. Today nearly one-third of the nation's population lives in this one metropolitan area with near 8 million inhabitants.

The city of Lima is situated on the same land where millenary pre-colombian settlements rose.

GETTING THERE
Lima, the capital city of Peru, is a major international gateway to Peru as well as other Andean countries, and so getting to Lima is certainly not a problem. Lima attracts thousands of Travelers and tourist every year from worldwide destinations.

Lima can be reached by air, sea as well as road, flights are by far the best way to reach the city. Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima is the major international hub for flights to Peru and some neighboring countries

TOURIST ATRACTIONS
Plaza San Martin: The Plaza San Martin dates from the 1900s, and was created to honor José de San Martín known as Santo de la Espada and the Knight of the Andes.

Larco Mar: From the street, Larcomar looks like a nice cliffside park with fountains, a few palm trees and a crowd of people perched along the railing looking out to sea. Walk a few steps down and discover a three-story mall, packed with restaurants, fast-food joints, shops, discos, a 12-screen movie theater and a 24-lane underground bowling alley. Larcomar is a mall, but also a destination because it's a diverse jumble of entertainment under one roof, and its location perched on top of the cliffs behind Parque Salazar.

Pachacamac: Pachacamac is other archaeological center of Lima located to the south of the city. It was a great and powerful city that begin the construction of its pyramids towards the 100 years a.d. (DC) and it was in operation until the arrival of the Spaniards. In order to arrive at the site it is quite easy, since by the site they pass routes important, the entrance to the site varies from a New Sun to 10 New Suns.

Other Attractions:
• Church of San Francisco
• Museo de la Nación (National Museum)
• Museo de Oro del Peru (Gold Museum)
